During my time at Disney, one of the big advantages we had was mobility – being able to move talented people from one team to the next.
However, in a typical corporate setting, transitioning from one leader to the next can be challenging. For starters, each organization has a unique culture with each leader contributing a distinct presence. From communication and demeanor to procedures and processes, this presence can vary and reshuffle how instructions are carried out. Thus, it should be no surprise when I say change is the inevitable overflow of a new supervisor entering the picture.
As I discuss in this episode, the best approach when inheriting a team is to embrace the situation with humility and confidence. Remember during the first several months of a new job, making decisions is secondary to engaging peers and building relationships. By engaging the right priorities with intentionality, no question, you’ll hit the ground running in making an immediate impact.
