In this Q&A episode, Jody and I tackle write-in questions concerning leadership development, employee recognition, and brand definition.

With leadership development, it’s important companies routinely evaluate their programs as they all have a shelf life. While monitoring how employees are acknowledged can seem like a moving target, in all cases, a formalized structure can brew unhealthy expectations. As leaders, keep in mind the best form of recognition is spontaneous in nature.

Similarly, paying attention to your environment can help a company’s leadership development. Since each organization is a unique mission, it’s safe to say there’s not a ‘one size fit all’ approach to vocational learning. However, as long as you facilitate team conversations and opportunities for input, your employees will, at least, have a choice and pathway to advance.

Finally, with brand definition, as I’ve discovered working for myself, accessibility and approachability are valuable qualities. When you help people, it adds value to what you offer. Accordingly, never ever doubt the power of availability.
